Accessibility and Awareness

Femme 2010: No Restrictions
Accessibility and Awareness

Taking into consideration the various ways in which Femmes across the country and the world construct Femme based on region, class, race, ethnicity, access and ability, the Femme Collective strives to create a safe place for open dialogue among a plethora of Femme-identified persons and their allies.

Below is information regarding awareness and accessibility for Femme 2010: No Restrictions.  This page will continue to be updated as we near the conference and more information becomes available. If you have any questions or concerns about the below policies and information, please contact our Accessibility and Awareness Chair, jen valles .

Scent-aware policy

Femme 2010: No Restrictions strives to create an environment in which everyone experiences the conference as a comfortable and accessible space. In keeping with this goal, our stance is that the conference space be a scent-aware environment. For more information on our scent-aware policy and how to be scent-aware click here .

ASL

We believe that providing ASL services at all plenary events as well as in requested workshops is crucial. To that end, we are doing our best to secure ASL interpretation for all of our keynotes, performances and requested workshops.

If you require ASL interpretation in workshops, please indicate that when you register or e-mail us by Friday, July 23rd (one month in advance of the conference) if possible. We will do our best to secure additional interpreters for workshops, but cannot guarantee assistance.  In that event, we will contact you to discuss alternate options.

If you are a licensed and certified ASL interpreter in the state of California and are willing to volunteer your services at the conference, please let us know!

Dietary

To keep conference registration costs down, we did not include any meals in the conference registration fee. There are, however, two restaurants located within the hotel  that are able to cater to many dietary requirements.

Additionally, there are dozens of restaurants that can be found within 0.5 miles of the hotel.

As the conference organizers we are not able to provide food from sources external to the hotel. However, please feel free to individually bring whatever food you may need to meet your specific dietary requirements.

Physical Accessibility and Safety:

ADA compliance

The Oakland Marriott City Center is fully accessible and is in compliance with the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act.

Restroom accessibility

During scheduled conference hours, we will be designating select restrooms gender neutral.

You can find information on gender neutral/genderfree/all-gender restrooms in the SF Bay Area here: http://www.safe2pee.org/beta/. Please note that safe2pee also has a texting function (please link here: http://www.safe2pee.org/beta/text.php), so  you can locate the nearest genderfree or traditionally gendered single stall or locking restroom even when you're out and about (we heart safe2pee!).
